Events in Latrobe

 Latrobe City is the host and home to many local, national and international events ranging from sports to festivals and fairs to expos with everything in between. Major events held annually include the Victorian and International Junior Tennis Championships and the Water Ski Championships. Latrobe City is also the home of Moe’s TRUenergy Yallourn Jazz and Blues Festival, one of the best in the state. This event is held annually over the Labour Day long weekend in March and attracts thousands of visitors every year.

The Moe Cup is Gippsland's most prestigious horse racing event where spectators can enjoy a day of high fashion and get that winning feeling. Held annually in October, the Moe Cup is part of a cluster of racing events called the Power of Racing held during the spring racing carnival season.

Other events include:

  • Oktoberfest held annually in October by the German Club, this is a great day to sample German beer and food. 
  • The Boolarra Folk Festival is held annually in February and is a great day of music, art and craft stalls and local produce.
  • Festival Latrobe, a cluster of events involving food, wine and culture held annually from February to March.
  • The Victorian Darts Open held in June

Friday 30 and Saturday 31 July - Tour Of Gippsland Stage 4 and 5

The Lakes Oil Tour of Gippsland, first held in 2005, is regarded as the ‘breeding ground’ for future Australian international team members and Tour de France riders. Stage 4 and 5 of the race will be held in Latrobe City.

Stage 4: 30 laps of a 1.3 kilometre circuit at Newborough Primary School.

Stage 5: Start at Bunnings, Morwell and will see riders race from Morwell to Maffra 85 km road race via Tyers, Glengarry, Toongabbie, Cowwarr, Heyfield and Tinamba. For more information on this event vist the Latrobe City Calendar of Events Website.

 


 

Saturday 24 July - Rowing Victoria Concept 2 Indoor Rowing Tri-Series

 

Rowing Victoria Concept 2 Indoor Rowing Tri-series is part of the Row for your life initiative set up by Rowing Victoria and Concept 2 to introduce the sport of Indoor Rowing into the community and to demonstrate how Indoor Rowing can be used to encourage physical activity and develop and improve mental and physical health. Being held at the Traralgon Indoor Sports Stadium, Catterick Crescent in Traralgon, you can enter the 100 metres, 500 metres, 2000 metres or 4 x 500 metres relay in school, open, masters or corporate categories.

Saturday 24 July - Colours of India

 

The Latrobe Indian Association Inc proudly presents an evening of tradional indian dance and music and the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre in Traralgon. Colours of India will involve classical, fusion and folk dances and classical music. Tickets are $25 for an adult and $15 for children and are available from the box office. Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 August -  2010 Peter Stevens Motorcycles Victorian Junior Motocross Championships - Round 4

The final round of the 2010 Peter Stevens Motorcycles Victorian Junior Motocross Championships will take place at the picturesque Newborough circuit, Energy Park, Coach Road in Newborough. The event will host some of thr best junior Motocross riders in Victoria. The championship classes include 50cc, 85cc/150cc, 125cc and 250cc, with each catering for the three different grades in Victoria (A, B & C Grade).
